This spring 2021, the virtual college tour at Cheyney University of Pennsylvania was fantastic! It was fun and insightful with a lot of valuable information for our Leadership Academy students. Some of the topics discussed were the history of Cheyney University, academic requirements for admission, and financial aid and scholarship opportunities.
Cheyney University is the first institution of higher learning founded for African Americans, on February 25, 1837. The university has a 12:1 faculty to student ratio - providing personalized attention to foster student success and growth. The students are provided "life coaches" as well as other resources to promote success during their academic experience. In addition, the university has a program called First Year Experience (FYE). The purpose of this program is to inform students of the steps necessary to ensure a successful collegiate experience. The program also offers opportunities for personal, professional, and leadership development to their students.
Finally, the Bessie Morris Foundation would like to express our appreciation to Isimhemen Ayewoh, Assistant Director of Admission at Cheyney University of Pennsylvania, for facilitating a great virtual tour. Thank you for being so accommodating to us and our students. We look forward to working with you next year to inspire more young people onto the pathway to college.
