2021-2010 | 2009 | 2008

God is so good. Every year we wonder if we will be able to continue the Prom Dreams Program and this year was no different. Due to the economic crisis, we were not able to receive funding this year. However, the great women of Los Angeles saved the day, 100 times over. I call them the "100 Positive Women". I am so grateful for their financial and moral support. This would not be possible without them. I would like to sincerely thank them for making a young lady's dream come true and allowing me to do what I do.

We had approximately 25 girls that applied this year from schools in the Los Angeles County area. We were only able to select five of these young ladies: Erilea Arreola, Tiffany Beasley, Lauren Dixon, Cherish Hawkins and Jasmyne Press.

We are so proud of these amazing young ladies who managed to persevere as well as they have, given their situation and circumstances, it is to say the least. We applaud them for their hard work and motivation. It is my hope that having won something like this will serve as a self-validating reward in itself. We hope that these ladies will feel encouraged and motivated by the fact that the Bessie Morris Foundation and the community recognizes and rewards them for all their work despite the hardships. We further hope that this will in some small way inspire these young ladies to go forward and have meaningful lives. I know from personal experience that an act of kindness goes a long way.

Also, I am proud to announce that this year's recipients will be attending the following colleges:

  • Erilea Arreola - Pasadena Community College
  • Tiffany Beasley - Cal State San Bernardino
  • Lauren Dixon - Cal State Long Beach
  • Cherish Hawkins - Long Beach Community College
  • Jasmyne Press - Clark University
